Masters of Rhythm

BACK TO THE STREETS

Taking it to the streets:The Masters Of Rhythm Logo
Masters of Rhythm; also referred to as MOR is known as a youth movement towards the celebration of dance. A major part of the movement has to do with hip hop. The event usually takes place at a venue and takes one day, whereby dancers and dance crews battle until there is one ultimate winner! The venue is usually referred to as “the streets” by the dancers. Last year however; the event organisers decided to take a different approach for the event by making it a weekly show on top youth channel VUZU (channel 123 on DSTV).  This brought the event a lot of publicity and a lot of followers for the dance crews that took part in the competition; especially for the winning crew The Reptiles. The show had plenty of viewers and although great judges such as rapper AKA were featured; the show is set to be going back to ‘the streets” again this year during the mid-year. We can all look forward to yet another celebration of dance in our country!

  2. I fully agree with you Simangele because a lot of the country's youth get leaded in the wrong direction. We need more events such as MOR because they also give a lot of motivation to the youth

  3. I think it was a great idea for the event to be on tv because not everyone could attend it on the streets and television is a very good publicity move!

  4. Pelzine, I also agree with you on that because television is a great platform towards getting more followers because then more people know about the show. Considering the fact that VUZU is a well followed and growing channel; the event is known by a lot of people now. This was a great marketing and Public Relations move!

  6. I think this is a very positive movement not only for dancers but the country as a whole, meaning that the youth are encouraged and motivated to explore and discover their hidden talents. But the downside to this is that the youth turn their focus more on such activities, forgetting that even though one wants to turn dancing into a career, one has to go to school!

    1. This is trully an inspirational event for the youth and yes; we turn to sidetrack from what is most important in life and focus more on such events. However, for some young people these evnts really are the answer to all life's problems because once they receive demotivation fromschool or any other area; they have a place to turn to RATHER than drugs and alcohol!

    2. @Lerato, well said! A lot of us think that because we've got the love for something, be it music, dance ect, then we'll make it big. It's not always the case, we need to start thinking about supporting our talents with education!

  7. it is a good thing that our youth is noe exposed to different activities that they can try out and then again can also persue a sustainable careers in such activities because not all of us are gifted academically

    1. That is a valid point because from looking at our pass rates these days, we then end up with a HIGH unemployment rate and now events such as these can help decrease our unemployment rate

    1. Dancing is a passion which is enjoyed by most South Africans, I strongly believe in the fact that this event will empower not only our youth but everyone as a whole!
