Grammy Awards 2012

The 54th annual Grammy awards: one of the

most memorable music events of our time
6 is a charm!: The biggest award winner of the night, Adele

Just as it has been for the last 54 years, the Grammys took place to acknowledge great musicians from various music genres. This year the awards took place on the 12th of February 2012, the night after the tragic death of one of music’s greatest singers of all time; Whiney Houston.  The pop star’s death caused a stir and many hearts at the award ceremony were broken because of this. The Grammy Award’s event planners dedicated a segment in the show to remembering the musical icon, which also came with a touching performance from Rhythm & Blues singer Jennifer Hudson.

Stand-out performances
Just like any other awards show; a lot of focus was on the award winners of the night. The biggest winner this year being pop superstar Adele, of whom scored an amazing six awards at the ceremony. People might think all the focus was on the pop-soul singer but that wasn’t the case. Nicki Minaj caused stir after the ceremony due to her performance and appearance at the awards. She arrived dressed in all red with a Catholic Father as a date. Her performance displayed a group of choir boys and altar servers on stage with her: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fc6j5z78LxA. Some people might have enjoyed this performance however; faith-based organisation, The Catholic League issued a statement that they didn’t appreciate the hip hop star’s actions. This could affect her public image especially if she had any Catholic supporters who also didn’t appreciate the performance.

Whether it was the loss of a music icon the night before, amazing wins from big stars or performances; the 54th annual Grammy awards were truly memorable!

  1. Punctuative debut!

It's great to see you extend your expression onto a globally accessible medium.

Although, I would encourage you to give us something a little different even when covering an event that already is making headlines.

In other words, dig a little deeper than the surface, otherwise we don't anticipate, as readers, anything "new" about your coverage.

    1. I strongly believe that my next post will really intigue you because I will be focusing on an event different from The Grammy Awards. I highly appreciate your critique and will take it into consideration with my next blog

  2. I like the fact that you've focused on the event it self and the perfomances rather than the obvious and common things like fashion on the red carpet for instance. Great argument produced!

  4. I am really happy with how much Adele has grown throughout the years and she trully deserved ALL the awards she won. It is also very sad just how this night had to follow a great loss; the tragic death of legendary Whitney Houston. As for the Nicki Minaj and Catholic situation; I trust that her PRP helped to resolve that so people can move past this and focus on her talent and her fun music!

  6. Adele really deserved this amazing win! She really outdid herself through her music!Of course, for every happy face there's a sad one behind. The loss of musical icon Whitney Houston on the night before really was tragic but we will always celebrate her life, through her beautiful music!

  8. If only South African award shows could vbe more like this! Usually awards are rewarded to the wrong people and tributes are just a small portion of the show!

  9. Like I always say; there is always room for improvement with ANY organisation. South African event planners can learn a lot from such events
